Experienced and Qualified Leadership

AGW’s principals Jay Annis, P.J. Gardner, Paul Whiting, Jr. and Charlie Hardwick have held meaningful roles at renowned financial service companies and strategic consulting firms, and have developed a diverse, collective skill set that differentiates the firm from the typical investment consultant. The team is highly credentialed, earning numerous investment industry accreditations (CFA®, CFP®, AIF®, CIMA®, and CPWA®) and advanced degrees.

Principal Biographies

Jay Annis, CFP®, CIMA®, AIF® Jay co-founded AGW after years of providing institutional investment consulting services to qualified plans, foundations, endowments and private clients. He is responsible for AGW’s compliance filings with the SEC and is a member of the firm’s investment committee. Jay also is the lead consultant for a number of AGW client engagements and has more than 15 years of industry experience.

Prior to forming AGW in 2009, Jay worked with CapTrust Financial Advisors, serving as a senior investment consultant from 2001 – 2009. He also worked at First Union Securities (the predecessor to Wells Fargo Securities) as a portfolio analyst and securities trader, and was previously with Salomon Smith Barney.

Jay is a graduate of the University of Florida where he received a degree in Economics with honors. He has also taken multiple post-graduate courses at the Wharton School of Business where he completed the Certified Investment Strategist and Certified Investment Management Analyst programs. In addition, Jay has earned designations as a Certified Financial Planner®, Certified Investment Management Analyst® and Accredited Investment Fiduciary®.

Jay is active in the industry and his community as a member of the Investment Management Consultant’s Association® and as a graduate of Leadership Tampa, as well as through Hyde Park United Methodist Church and several other social organizations.

P.J. Gardner, CFA®, CFP®, CIMA® P. J. is responsible for AGW’s investment research and strategy, leads the firm’s investment committee and manages a number of AGW’s client relationships. He has more than 15 years of industry experience and is highly credentialed, having earned his charter as a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®), as well as designations as a Certified Financial Planner® and Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®). P. J. has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal and other business and financial publications.

A native Floridian, P. J. is a graduate of the University of Florida where he received a degree in Finance with honors. He later returned to the University of Florida earning a Master of Business Administration. P. J. has also taken multiple post-graduate courses at the Wharton School of Business where he completed the Certified Investment Strategist and CIMA® programs.

Prior to co-founding AGW, P. J. was a senior investment consultant with CapTrust Financial Advisors. He previously worked with First Union Securities (the predecessor to Wells Fargo Securities) as a portfolio analyst and securities trader, and was previously with Salomon Smith Barney. While employed in these roles, P. J. advised numerous foundations, endowments, qualified plans and private clients on investment policy, asset allocation, investment manager research, performance measurement and evaluation.

P. J. is active in the industry and his community through CFA Tampa Bay, the Investment Management Consultant’s Association® (IMCA®), Conn Memorial Foundation, Florida United Methodist Foundation, Florida Department of Financial Services - Division of the Treasury, Hyde Park Methodist Church, and several other social organizations.

Paul Whiting, Jr., CFA®, AIF® Paul is an investment consultant and a co-founder of the firm. He is also responsible for the firm’s finance and operations activities and serves on the investment committee.

Prior to co-founding AGW Capital Advisors, Paul was a managing director with Seabreeze Holdings, Inc., a partner with One Equity Partners (a private equity subsidiary of Banc One, now JP Morgan), and an associate with Continental Illinois Venture Corporation (a private equity subsidiary of Bank of America). Two other formative positions he held were with Parthenon Group, a strategy consulting firm, and Eaton Vance Management, an investment management firm.

Building on his 15 years of private equity and strategy consulting background, Paul brings a wealth of knowledge and insight into capitalizing, monitoring and leading private companies. He has invested in (and been a director of) companies with revenues ranging from $25 million to $500 million, within a variety of industries, including telecommunications infrastructure, commercial maintenance and healthcare.

Paul earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Boston College and his Master of Business Administration from The Tuck School at Dartmouth College. Paul is a Chartered Financial Analyst® charterholder and an Accredited Investment Fiduciary®.

Outside of work and family, Paul has always had a strong desire to give back to his community, and has done this in a significant way as a trustee of the Tampa Bay History Center, Frameworks of Tampa Bay, and the Tampa Preparatory School.

Charlie Hardwick, CIMA®, CPWA®, AIF® Charlie is an investment consultant who joined AGW in 2014 after more than 20 years in the investment banking and alternative investments industries. Charlie is a principal and leads a number of the firm's institutional and private client relationships. He also serves as a member of the investment committee.

Previously, Charlie worked with Vinik Asset Management, a multi-billion dollar long/short equity fund. He was also a partner with Oakpoint Advisors, an alternative investment advisory firm.  Prior to Oakpoint, Charlie was with Winston Partners, a $1.4 billion long/short equity fund of funds. From 1998 to 2002, Charlie was a Vice President in Corporate Finance at Lehman Brothers, and previously was in the merger and acquisition departments at Barclays and Houlihan Lokey.

Charlie is a graduate of the University of Virginia where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce. He received his Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He has earned designations as a Certified Investment Management Analyst®, an Accredited Investment Fiduciary®, and a Certified Private Wealth Advisor®.

Charlie is active in his community through the University of Virginia Jefferson Scholarship Committee, Advisory Council for the Sykes College of Business at the University of Tampa, Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church and other social organizations.

Supporting Team Biographies

Robbie Amor, CPA Robbie joined AGW in 2019 as the firm’s Controller to provide financial accounting oversight and to support business planning and growth for the firm. Robbie started his career in the assurance practice of public accounting at Deloitte, where he served companies ranging from large, Fortune 200 companies to smaller, private-equity backed firms.

Robbie is licensed with the state of Florida as a certified public accountant and he’s an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in accounting from the University of Florida’s Fisher School of Accounting. He is a third-generation native of Tampa and a proud alumnus of Jesuit High School.

Chelly Anglada Chelly joined AGW in 2018 as a client relations associate bringing 12 years of experience at AllianceBernstein Private Wealth Management working as a Senior Private Client Coordinator and Managing Director Assistant for a team of financial advisors and their clients. 

Originally from Queens, New York, Chelly moved to the Tampa Bay area in 2004 with her husband and two children. Chelly earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management with a minor in Human Development with honors from Eckerd College.

Kathy Bryant Kathy joined AGW in 2009 as our director of client relations. With over thirty years in the financial services industry, Kathy is a seasoned professional with experience that includes relationship management, portfolio trading, administration, and accounting. Kathy’s career in the financial services industry began in 1984 at Coopers & Lybrand.

Kathy moved on to Merrill Lynch in 1992 where she assumed the role of senior registered client associate – a title that she held for more than seventeen years. While at Merrill Lynch, Kathy was instrumental in establishing the service standards within her team of advisors, which were later adopted by several other Merrill Lynch advisory teams.

Chase Fowler Chase joined AGW in 2019 as an analyst and trader to help provide investment research, portfolio management, and performance measurement.

Prior to AGW, Chase worked as a Credit Analyst for Wells Fargo Specialized Industries in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he performed credit analysis, underwriting, and portfolio management for the Healthcare, Higher Education, and Nonprofits team.

Originally from Tampa, Chase graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. Chase currently serves as an Associate Director for the Triad Foundation, Inc. based in Ithaca, New York.

Dan George, CIMA®, AIF® Dan is a Senior Analyst at AGW. In this role, he works alongside AGW’s consultants to help clients accomplish their goals and objectives. His focus is investment research, asset allocation, portfolio construction, portfolio management, data aggregation, and performance analysis. He also sits on the AGW Investment Committee.

Prior to joining AGW in 2016, Dan worked as Project Manager in the Family Office division for Tom Grady, founder of Grady Law. Dan then joined Gasparilla Capital (the predecessor to Stonehill), a boutique venture capital and consulting firm focused on early-stage technology investments and business development consulting. As a Principal, Dan worked directly with clients to analyze and develop smart data design strategies to enhance customer relationships and add measurable results

Dan attended Florida Gulf Coast University where he earned a B.S. in Finance. Dan was a student-athlete, playing goalkeeper for the Division I men's soccer team and winning two conference championships. He has also taken post-graduate courses at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business where he earned the designation as a Certified Investment Management Analyst®. In addition, Dan has also earned the designation as an Accredited Investment Fiduciary®. Dan is currently a Level II candidate in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) program, which he will sit for in June 2020.

Melissa Kaminski Melissa joined AGW in 2019 as a Client Relations Associate with over ten years in the financial services industry. Prior to AGW, Melissa worked for Morgan Stanley followed by J.P. Morgan Securities, where she focused on leading teams in client service. In addition to client service, Melissa has experience across many other facets, including project management, securities trading, and strategic marketing.

Originally from New Jersey, Melissa moved to the Tampa Bay area in 2018 with her family. Melissa earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Miami with a double major in Human Resource Management, and Business Management and Organization.

Jimmy Robbins Jimmy joined AGW in 2018 as an analyst and trader to help provide investment research, portfolio management, and performance measurement.

Prior to AGW, Jimmy worked as an associate in the Debt Products Group, where he performed credit analysis and portfolio underwriting for Regions Bank in Dallas, Texas.

Originally from the Tampa Bay area, Jimmy is a graduate of Sewanee: The University of the South, where he earned a degree in History, with honors. In addition, he received a Master of Arts in Management from Wake Forest University.

Kevin Singh Kevin joined AGW in 2019 as an analyst and trader to help provide investment research, portfolio management, and performance measurement.

Prior to AGW, Kevin worked as an analyst in the JPMorgan Private Bank supporting the Central Florida market. He was primarily responsible for helping design solutions for clients through the implementation of managed portfolios using financial modeling, asset allocation, and portfolio construction strategies. Kevin then joined CliftonLarsonAllen, an accounting and professional services firm, where he assisted businesses on telecommunications and cyber security strategies. 

Originally from the Central Florida area, Kevin moved to Tampa in 2016. Kevin attended the University of Florida where he earned degrees in Finance and Management Information Systems.
